What we love about Gothenburg is that it is a big city with everything, and everything is within walking distance. Visit Sweden's second city and you can eat at a Michelin-starred restaurant, drink locally brewed beer, browse great vintage shops, visit Liseberg amusement park or simply relax at one of the city's luxurious spa hotels.

Picolo earns a small commission if you book through our links. It costs you nothing extra, and we only recommend hotels we like ourselves.

Wherever you check in, you can walk to whatever you want to do, or hop on one of the city bikes.

Here are the ten best and most central hotels in Gothenburg, according to Picolo.com:

The links to the hotels are partner links. If you book through them, Picolo may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. You choose your own dates and room on the hotel page.

Clarion Hotel Post

A rooftop pool and a bar: it hardly gets better at a hotel.

1. Clarion Hotel® Post: a hotel with a rooftop pool

Clarion Hotel Post is right in the centre, next to Gothenburg's railway station. It is Picolo's favourite hotel in the city, because it has everything.

Enjoy the spa or a swim in the rooftop pool with a lovely view and a drink in hand. Have brunch with friends at the hotel restaurant Norda, which has a DJ and good mimosas. Clarion Hotel Post also has the seafood restaurant VRÅ, and you must not miss the oysters!

Draken

Gothenburg's new hotel for good food, great views and shows.

2. Clarion Hotel® Draken: Gothenburg's hot newcomer

Gothenburg's tallest hotel, Draken, opened in October 2023. It is home to the classic Draken cinema, a historic dance hall and Folkets Hus, and is close to the hearts of true Gothenburgers. You feel it the moment you walk in. History has been preserved here, yet it feels modern, with two restaurants, four bars, conference rooms, a rooftop bar and a cinema.

Keep an eye on the events calendar, which covers everything from shows to jazz concerts. You could really just check in and stay put.

Liseberg

At Grand Curiosa you walk straight into Gothenburg's coolest amusement park, Liseberg.

3. Liseberg Grand Curiosa: the perfect family hotel

Liseberg Grand Curiosa is the new hotel attached to Liseberg amusement park. It takes families seriously: there is entertainment from the moment you walk in until you are tucked up in your room, and nothing is missing. In reception there is a cool slide from the third floor down to the first, where children can play for ages.

The lobby also has its own classic carousel, and food is served by so-called cat robots. Fun! The rooms are cleverly divided, with a separate children's room with bunk beds and a curtain, and the grown-ups' part on the other side. The food in the hotel bar is good, especially the burger.

Picolo.com still recommends the rooftop restaurant, Mei Rose Rooftop Bar & Bistro, with an Asian sharing menu where everyone finds something they like.

The Pier

At this hotel you have a view from your room and eat Gothenburg's best Chinese food.

4. Clarion Hotel® The Pier: for authentic Chinese food

The Pier is a little over a kilometre from the centre, on Lindholmen. Stay here if you do not mind a short journey. The hotel suits everyone but is great for team building with work. The Pier has three bars, several meeting rooms and a conference area, a restaurant and a relaxation area with a yoga studio and gym. Even so, it makes the list mostly because of Restaurant Fei.

Chef Guowei Zhou has told Strawberry that he makes the city's best and most authentic Chinese food, and we agree completely. You need to like it hot (we were in tears), and you must order the cold dish with osmanthus, tomatoes and preserved plums.

A hotel by the archipelago

Stay right by Stenpiren and you are a short boat ride from the Swedish archipelago and a swim in the sea.

10. Comfort Hotel® Göteborg: good value right by the archipelago

Here you are practically on Stenpiren, where the ferries leave for the Swedish archipelago. It is one of the better value places on the list, and that is exactly why it is here.

Stay here if you are going to a concert at Ullevi, shopping all day on Magasinsgatan and working your way through the city's bars. In other words, a perfect hotel if you are out and about and will not spend much time in your room. But Comfort Hotel Göteborg still has everything you need: modern rooms, a gym, a car park, a restaurant, a bar and a good hotel breakfast.
