It is nine in the evening and still warm. The tapas bars around the stadium are three deep, nobody is in a hurry, and the first whistle goes just as most of Europe is thinking about bed. Dinner comes after the match, somewhere around midnight.

In short: La Liga tickets

La Liga often confirms the exact day and kick-off only about ten days before the round. Book flights and hotels for the whole weekend, Friday to Monday if you can, and buy the ticket when the time is set. Real Madrid and Barcelona are the big draws and sell out first. El Clásico is the hardest ticket in Spanish football.

How to choose the right match

  • First time: Real Madrid at the Bernabéu or Barcelona at home. The stadiums are an experience in themselves.

  • For the atmosphere: a derby. Atlético against Real Madrid, the Seville derby or Athletic Club at San Mamés in Bilbao.

  • With the sun: Sevilla, Valencia or Villarreal. Easier tickets and a warmer winter weekend.

Worth knowing

  • Kick-off times

La Liga sets the day and time about ten days before each round. Late kick-offs at 21:00 are common, especially for the big clubs.

  • Getting there

The Bernabéu has its own metro stop on line 10. In Barcelona, take the metro towards Les Corts and walk the last stretch with the crowd.

  • ID

Bring a passport or ID card. Some clubs check that the name on the ticket matches the person using it.

  • Weather

Early-season evenings can be hot in Seville and Valencia. Late in the year, bring a jacket for an open stadium after dark.

  • Before and after

Eat tapas before the match and dinner after. Restaurants in Madrid and Barcelona serve well past midnight on matchdays.

La Liga tickets: FAQ

When are La Liga kick-off times announced?

Usually about ten days before the round. Until then you only know the weekend. Book a flexible hotel from Friday to Monday and buy the match ticket once the time is confirmed.

How do I get tickets for El Clásico?

Real Madrid against Barcelona is the hardest ticket in Spain. The clubs sell mostly to members, so for visitors the options are official hospitality or a reseller, usually at a high price. Book as early as you can.

Which La Liga stadium is best for a first visit?

The Santiago Bernabéu in Madrid, with its new roof and huge stands, is hard to beat. Camp Nou in Barcelona is the largest stadium in Europe. San Mamés in Bilbao has the best atmosphere for its size.

When does the La Liga season run?

From mid-August to late May. Autumn and spring give the best weather for a football weekend. Winter is mild in the south.

Where is the Champions League final 2027?

At the Metropolitano in Madrid, home of Atlético, on 5 June 2027. See our page on Champions League tickets for the fixtures before the final.
