European nights

Tuesday and Wednesday, nine in the evening. The best time of the week to be in a football stadium.

The anthem starts and sixty thousand people hold up their scarves. A Champions League night is a city break with a deadline: fly in on Tuesday morning, eat well, walk to the stadium with the home fans and fly home the next day.

In short: how to get Champions League tickets

Clubs sell their home games to members and season-ticket holders first, and many big matches never reach general sale. For a visitor the routes are club membership, official hospitality or a ticket reseller, where prices are often above face value. League-phase dates are fixed, so you can book flights and hotels now. Kick-off is 18:45 or 21:00 Central European Time.

This season five English clubs are in the league phase (Arsenal, Aston Villa, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United), five Spanish (Atlético Madrid, Barcelona, Real Betis, Real Madrid and Villarreal) and four Italian (Como, Inter, Napoli and Roma). For tickets to the domestic leagues, see Premier League tickets, La Liga tickets and Serie A tickets.

At 18:45 or 21:00 Central European Time on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. In the UK that is 17:45 or 20:00. On the last matchday of the league phase all games kick off at 21:00 at the same time.
