Serie A tickets: from San Siro to the Olimpico

The spiral ramps of San Siro fill slowly from the bottom. Someone lights a flare in the Curva, a drum starts, and half an hour before kick-off the whole stand is already on its feet. Italians eat late, and football is no exception: the big games start at 20:45.
In short: Serie A tickets
Italian tickets are named. The name on the ticket must match your passport or ID card, and stewards check it at the gate. Exact kick-off times are usually set a few weeks before the round, so wait for the confirmed slot before you book anything you cannot change. For the biggest games, the Milan derby above all, book early.
How to choose the right match
First time: Inter or AC Milan at San Siro. Two clubs share the stadium, so there is a home game in Milan almost every weekend.
For the atmosphere: the Derby della Madonnina between Inter and Milan, or Roma against Lazio at the Olimpico.
With a city break: Roma at the Olimpico. Rome by day, football by night.
Four ways into Italian football
All links go to our ticket partner, where you pick the match and the seats.
The ticket links go to Sports Events 365, an independent ticket reseller, not the clubs. If you book through them, Picolo may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. Resale prices can be higher than face value.
Worth knowing
Named tickets
Bring the passport or ID card that matches the name on the ticket. Without it you can be turned away.
Kick-off times
Serie A spreads each round from Friday to Monday, with kick-offs from 12:30 to 20:45. The exact slot is set a few weeks ahead.
Getting to San Siro
Metro line M5 to San Siro Stadio. Leave plenty of time, the trains are full on matchdays.
Security
Glass, umbrellas with points and large bags are usually stopped at the gate. Travel light.
Where to sit
The Curva behind the goal is for the ultras, loud and standing. Families and first-timers are better off on the long sides.
How Picolo chooses
Our editors pick every hotel and experience themselves, and most of them we have tried. Nobody can pay to be included or ranked higher. When you book through our links, Picolo earns a small commission. It never changes the price you pay, and it never decides what we write.

Serie A tickets: FAQ
Do I need ID for Serie A matches?
Yes. Italian football tickets carry the holder's name, and stewards can ask to see a passport or ID card at the gate. Make sure the name on the ticket matches the person using it.
When is the Milan derby?
Inter and AC Milan meet twice in Serie A every season, once as the home side each, and both games are played at San Siro. Dates are set with the fixture list and kick-off times a few weeks before. Our ticket partner lists the derby as soon as it is on sale.
Do Inter and AC Milan play at the same stadium?
Yes. Both clubs play at San Siro, officially Stadio Giuseppe Meazza. That means a Serie A home game in Milan nearly every weekend of the season.
When does the Serie A season run?
From late August to late May, with a short winter break around the new year. Autumn and spring give the best weather for a weekend in Italy.
Is it safe to go to a Serie A match?
Yes, for the vast majority of games. Sit away from the Curva and the away sector if you want a calm evening, and follow the stewards. Derbies are loud but the main stands are full of families and tourists.
