Flight and hotel together, or separately?

A package with flights and hotel in one booking is often the easiest option and can lower the total price, especially for weekends and peak season holidays. Booking separately lets you choose airline, departure and hotel freely. In the guides below we show both, and explain which airport to choose and how to get into town.

The links to the hotels and trips are partner links. If you book through them, Picolo may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.

Frequently asked questions about flights and hotels

Is it cheaper to book flights and a hotel together?

It often is, especially for weekends and peak season, because a package can lower the total price and gives you one booking. Compare it with booking separately if you want a particular hotel or airline.

How far ahead should I book flights and a hotel?

For a city break, four to six weeks ahead is often enough, but two to three months is safer for popular weekends. Christmas, February half term and Easter should be booked earlier.

Are package holidays ATOL protected?

Flight inclusive packages sold by UK travel companies are usually ATOL protected. Check the protection details in your booking confirmation before you pay.

What is the difference between a package holiday and booking separately?

A package combines flights and hotel in one booking, often with one price and one place to manage changes. Booking separately gives more freedom, but each part is its own contract.
