Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve
Village farmers work the hotel’s own rice paddies while you eat dinner inside a bamboo dome above the river.
Early in the day, people from the local village are already out in the paddies that belong to the resort, planting and harvesting by hand. Mandapa sits higher up the Ayung valley than its neighbours, surrounded by green terraces and palms.
Each villa has a pool of its own, and a butler takes care of the rest. In the evening, the restaurant in its bamboo dome over the river is one of the most talked about tables on the island.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve
We chose Mandapa for the calm and the privacy. The rice fields make it feel like rural Bali rather than a resort, and the service is built around never having to ask for anything twice.
There is no beach anywhere near, and most guests end up spending their days on the property. If you want to explore Ubud on foot every evening, you will be taking a car each time.

Open in MapsQuestions about Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve
Is Mandapa close to the beach?
No. Mandapa lies inland in the Ayung valley, well away from the coast, so a beach day means a long drive south.
How far is Mandapa from central Ubud?
About fifteen minutes by car, which makes dinner in town easy but rules out simply walking in.
Who suits Mandapa best?
Couples and anyone after quiet and privacy. Every villa comes with a butler, and the setting among rice fields rewards staying put.
