Røros hotels: four places to stay in the World Heritage town
The church tower rises above the black timber houses, and smoke climbs straight up from the chimneys. These are the hotels in Røros we would book, and what sets them apart.

Røros sits 628 metres above sea level, built by miners over 333 years of copper working. The town is on UNESCO’s World Heritage List, and the timber houses along Bergmannsgata and Kjerkgata have stood for more than 300 years.
That means hotels are few, and they fill quickly when something is on. During the Christmas market in December, and Femundløpet and the Rørosmartnan fair in February, central rooms go well in advance.
In short
Erzscheidergården is our first choice in Røros: a small hotel in a 17th-century house, with Røros church as its nearest neighbour and a breakfast known well beyond the town. If you want a pool and ski tracks outside the door, Røros Hotell is the biggest hotel in town.

In the heart of the old town
Three of the hotels are in the centre, within walking distance of the church, the smelting house and the shops. The car can stay put for the whole trip.

Erzscheidergården
The hotel is named after the ore separator, Erzscheider in German, who once lived in the house. Built in the 17th century, the house is partly listed, and Røros church is its nearest neighbour.
Each of the 24 rooms is furnished differently, with timber walls and old furniture. The breakfast bread comes from the town’s oldest bakery. It suits travellers who want somewhere small and personal, right inside the World Heritage site.

When to book
The Christmas market (3 to 6 December 2026): Central hotels fill first, and rooms go long before the market.
Femundløpet and Rørosmartnan in February: The town is full of mushers, spectators and market traders.
The rest of the year: Rooms are usually easier to find, even at short notice.
Getting to Røros
Røros Airport is a couple of kilometres from the centre, with flights from Oslo. Trains on the Røros Line run from Trondheim and Hamar, and the drive from Oslo takes about five hours.
Røros is one of the coldest places in Norway in winter. Pack wool and good boots, because the timber houses and the streets are what you are here for.
