Røros Christmas market 2026: dates, what’s on and where to stay
Snow settles on the stalls along Bergmannsgata, and the smell of woodsmoke and smoked sausage hangs in the street. The Røros Christmas market runs from 3 to 6 December 2026, and this is what you need for the trip.

The Røros Christmas market began in 2008 as a small Christmas fair at Fjellheimen. Today around 50 stalls fill Bergmannsgata, the widest street in the World Heritage town, and it is one of the best-known Christmas markets in Norway.
It lasts just four days, and Røros has few hotels. Sort out where you will sleep before anything else.

What’s on at the market
The stalls on Bergmannsgata are built of wood and hung with garlands of spruce. They sell crafts, handmade goods, home baking and local food from the Røros area.
Sangerhuset, the green house a little way up the street, has more traders indoors. The back courtyard of Kurantgården becomes part of the market too, with fire pits and seats covered in reindeer skins.
Horse-drawn sleighs run between the stalls, and Røros church often holds concerts during the market days. The programme is on julemarkedroros.no.
More to do in Røros in December
Smelthytta, the old smelting house on Malmplassen, is part of the Røros Museum and tells the story of the copper works. Olav’s Mine, an old copper mine about ten kilometres out of town, runs tours underground.
Borrow a kick sled and glide through the lanes between the timber houses. Røros is cold in December, often well below zero, so pack wool and warm boots.
