Elden is Norway’s biggest open-air theatre and has been performed on the slag heaps of Røros since 1994. It tells the story of the war between Norway and Sweden in 1718 and 1719. Swedish soldiers marched into Trøndelag, and thousands froze to death on the retreat over the mountains.
More than 12,000 people see Elden every summer. 2027 is the third and final year of director Tomas Glans’ version, so this is the last chance to see it.

What you see at Slegghaugan
The slag heaps are what remains of more than 300 years of copper working, great mounds of waste from the smelting house. On summer evenings they become the stage for the war drama, and more than 330 volunteers help put on the show, many of them in roles.
The play was written by Arnfinn Strømmevold and Bertil Reithaug. It has an age limit of six, and it is performed outdoors, so bring warm clothes even in July.
