In short
The Maldives is our first choice for a March honeymoon, with calm seas and some of the sunniest days of the year. Dubai sits around 28°C before the summer heat, and it is high season in Tulum. Sri Lanka and Costa Rica are still dry, and Easter fills hotels early.
Our first choice: See rooms at Baros Maldives
In March the sea around the Maldives is often at its calmest, and the wind has dropped. It is also the last chance of dry weather in Costa Rica and on Sri Lanka’s south coast before the rains. Dubai is warm enough for the beach, but not so hot that you have to stay indoors at midday.
Five honeymoon destinations for March
Maldives: Baros Maldives
March is one of the sunniest months in the Maldives, with a glassy sea. Baros is in North Malé Atoll, around half an hour by speedboat from the airport. There is no seaplane, and you can be on the beach the afternoon you land. The dive centre is right by the sand, and The Lighthouse is the place for the night you dress up.
Best for: couples who want to arrive quickly and spend their days on the reef.

Madinat Jumeirah
The view towards Burj Al Arab from Jumeirah Al Qasr.
Dubai: Jumeirah Al Qasr
In March Dubai sits around 28°C, ideal for combining beach, desert and restaurants on one trip. Jumeirah Al Qasr is built like an Arabian palace on the beach at Madinat Jumeirah, with Burj Al Arab next door. Small boats carry guests along the canals between the hotels and the souk.
Best for: couples who want a short flight, beach and city on one trip.

Tulum
A beach cabana at La Valise Tulum.
Mexico: La Valise Tulum
March is high season on the Riviera Maya, with a turquoise sea and little rain. La Valise is part of Small Luxury Hotels and sits by the sea south of Tulum, on the way to the Sian Ka’an reserve. Swim in a cenote in the morning and see the ruins above the sea before the heat builds. From spring, sargassum seaweed can wash up on the beaches, so check before you go.
Best for: couples who want cenotes and Maya ruins as well as the beach.

Kandalama
The facade is almost hidden by the jungle.
Sri Lanka: Heritance Kandalama
March is the last month of reliably dry weather in the Cultural Triangle and on the south coast. Heritance Kandalama is Geoffrey Bawa’s hotel built into a rock face beside Kandalama lake, looking towards Sigiriya. Combine it with a few days on the beach. The route is in our Sri Lanka honeymoon guide.
Best for: couples who love architecture as much as a view.

Tabacón
The warm river runs through the rainforest.
Costa Rica: Tabacón Thermal Resort & Spa
March is still dry season in Costa Rica, and Arenal volcano is more often free of cloud. At Tabacón a river heated by the volcano runs through the spa in waterfalls and natural pools. The hotel has adults-only areas, and guests rate it 9.6. See our Costa Rica honeymoon guide.
Best for: couples who want to spend their evenings in warm water.

Easter and spring holidays
Easter fills hotels in the Maldives, Dubai and Mexico, and prices rise. If Easter falls late, early March is the quietest time. See also our May honeymoon guide if you would rather head to the Mediterranean once it warms up.
Frequently asked questions about a March honeymoon
Where is best for a honeymoon in March?
The Maldives is the best choice, with calm seas and plenty of sunshine. Dubai has pleasant warmth before summer, and Mexico’s Riviera Maya is in high season. Sri Lanka and Costa Rica are still in their dry season. In Europe it is too early for the beach, so choose a city break or wait until May.
Is March a good month for Dubai?
Yes, March is one of the best months in Dubai, around 28°C and warm enough for the beach. It is also good weather for a desert trip and for exploring the city on foot. From May it gets too hot for most people. Jumeirah Al Qasr at Madinat Jumeirah is our pick.
Is March a good month for the Maldives?
Yes, March is one of the best months in the Maldives, with glassy seas, good visibility and lots of sunshine. It is still high season, but prices are often lower than at Christmas. Baros near Malé is our pick, as you arrive by speedboat and avoid the seaplane.
When should you book a March honeymoon?
Four to six months ahead is enough for most destinations, but book earlier if you are travelling over Easter. The Maldives and Dubai are in high season, and the best rooms go first. Mention that you are newlyweds when you book, as hotels often do something extra.
