St Lucia honeymoon: where to stay, what to do and when to go
Two volcanic peaks rising out of the sea, rainforest above the beaches and hotel suites with one wall left open to the view. St Lucia is the Caribbean island most couples picture when they think of a honeymoon.

St Lucia is small, only just over 40 kilometres from end to end, but the two halves feel like different islands. The south around Soufrière has the Pitons, the rainforest and the hotels built for the view. The north around Rodney Bay has the long beaches, the restaurants and the bars. This guide helps you choose the side, the hotel and the length of stay for a honeymoon, and suggests what to do as a couple.
In short: St Lucia for a honeymoon
The best side for most couples: the south, near Soufrière and the Pitons. Add a few nights in the north if you want a long beach and restaurants within walking distance.
How long: ten nights works well, for example six in the south and four in the north.
The best time: December to April, the driest months.
Flights from the UK: direct from London in around nine hours, landing at Hewanorra in the south.
Our hotel pick: Ladera, an adults-only resort on a ridge above Soufrière, rated 9.8 out of 10 by guests on Hotels.com.
Our first choice for a honeymoon: Ladera, where every suite has a missing wall and a private pool facing the Pitons. Read more in our St Lucia travel guide.

Why St Lucia works for a honeymoon
Many Caribbean islands are flat and built around the beach. St Lucia is steep and green, and the best hotels are built into the hillside with the Pitons in front of them. Gros Piton and Petit Piton, and the sea between them, are part of the Pitons Management Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
That gives a honeymoon in St Lucia a different rhythm. You spend the mornings on a terrace or in your own plunge pool, go down to the beach or the reef in the afternoon, and watch the sun set behind the peaks. English is the official language, and there are direct flights from London, so the trip is easy to plan.
South or north: where to stay
The south: Soufrière and the Pitons. This is the side for views, quiet and the most special hotels. Ladera, Jade Mountain, Anse Chastanet and Sugar Beach all lie within a short drive of each other. The beaches are smaller, often with dark volcanic sand, and the roads are steep and winding.
The north: Rodney Bay and Cap Estate. Flatter and livelier, with Reduit Beach, Pigeon Island, the marina and many restaurants. The hotels here are more traditional beach resorts. The north suits couples who want to walk to dinner and swim from a long sandy beach.
Our advice: start in the south, where the view is the reason for the trip, and end with a few nights in the north. The drive between the two takes most of a morning, so one move is enough.
Things to do in St Lucia as a couple
Hike Gros Piton with a local guide, starting early, for the view over the whole south coast.
Sit in the warm mud baths at Sulphur Springs, a volcanic crater you can drive into, then walk through the botanical gardens to Diamond Falls.
Snorkel the reef off Anse Chastanet, one of the best on the island, straight from the beach.
Sail down the west coast on a catamaran and stop in the bay below the Pitons.
Visit a cocoa estate near Soufrière and taste chocolate made from beans grown on the slope.
Book a private dinner on the beach. Some hotels, such as Anse Chastanet, set up a table on the sand with candles and torches.
Walk up to the fort on Pigeon Island in the north and swim at Reduit Beach afterwards.

How long to stay, and how to split the trip
Ten nights is a good length for a honeymoon in St Lucia. It gives you time to rest after the long flight, a few days to explore the south and a slow finish by the beach.
Seven nights: stay in the south only. Choose a hotel with a beach, such as Sugar Beach or Anse Chastanet.
Ten nights: six nights in the south, then four in the north.
Two weeks: add a few days on another island, for example Barbados or Antigua, with a short regional flight.
Getting there and getting around
There are direct flights from London to Hewanorra in the south of the island, and the flight takes around nine hours. From Hewanorra it is around an hour to Soufrière and considerably longer to Rodney Bay. Most of the hotels above arrange the transfer, and Ladera includes it.
You can hire a car, but the roads in the south are steep and narrow, and traffic drives on the left. Many couples prefer taxis and hotel transfers.

Our pick for a honeymoon
Ladera: a suite with one wall open to the Pitons
Ladera sits on a forested ridge above Soufrière, and every suite is built without a fourth wall, so the Pitons and the sea fill the room from the moment you wake. The resort is for adults only, with a private pool by each suite, Dasheene restaurant and a free airport shuttle. Guests give it 9.8 out of 10 from 720 reviews on Hotels.com.
Our verdict
What Picolo recommends: ten nights, with six in the south at Ladera, Jade Mountain or Sugar Beach and four in the north at Cap Maison, Calabash Cove or East Winds.
Why: the south gives you the views and the hotels the island is famous for, and the north gives you a long beach and restaurants to finish the trip.
The trade-off: the best views in the south come with steep roads and small beaches. If a long sandy beach matters most, stay in the north or choose Sugar Beach.
Frequently asked questions
Is St Lucia good for a honeymoon?
Yes. St Lucia is one of the most popular honeymoon islands in the Caribbean, thanks to the Pitons, the rainforest and hotels built for couples, several of them adults only. There are direct flights from London in around nine hours, and English is the official language. The best time to go is December to April, when the weather is driest.
Where should we stay in St Lucia on honeymoon?
Stay in the south, near Soufrière, for the view of the Pitons and the most special hotels, such as Ladera, Jade Mountain and Sugar Beach. Stay in the north, around Rodney Bay, for long beaches and restaurants within reach. Many couples spend most of the trip in the south and finish with a few nights in the north.
How many days do you need in St Lucia?
Ten nights is a good length for a honeymoon. That gives you time to recover from the flight, explore the Pitons, Sulphur Springs and the reefs, and end with a few quiet days on the beach. With only a week, stay in the south at a hotel with its own beach, so you avoid a long transfer in the middle of the trip.
What is the best month for a St Lucia honeymoon?
December to April is the driest period and the most popular time for a honeymoon in St Lucia. May is often good too, with lower hotel prices. The rainy and hurricane season runs from June to November, so a refundable booking is wise if you travel then.
