Hotels in Fuengirola: where to stay, from Miramar to Los Boliches

Fuengirola is the Costa del Sol at its most practical, with long beaches, a train to the airport and a promenade you can walk for hours. These are the five hotels we would choose, and the part of town each one suits best.

In short

Our first choice in Fuengirola is Hotel IPV Palace & Spa. It has the beach promenade right outside at the Miramar end of town, a spa and its own children's pool, and guests on Hotels.com rate it 9.0. For a lower price, look at Los Boliches.

It is early morning on the Paseo Marítimo. The first runners have been and gone, the cafés along the promenade are setting out their tables, and on the beach the sand is being raked between empty sun loungers. In a few hours it will be busy, with families, retirees who have wintered here for twenty years and visitors fresh off the train from the airport.

Fuengirola is an easy town. The train from Málaga airport runs all the way here, the beaches follow one after another along the whole seafront, and you rarely need a car. The main decision is which end of the promenade to stay at.

Miramar and Sohail: the quiet end

At the western end of town you will find the Miramar shopping centre and Sohail Castle on a low hill by the river mouth. The promenade is wider and calmer here than in the centre, yet you can still walk into town in about a quarter of an hour.

Before you book

  • Take the train from the airport. The local train from Málaga airport runs to Fuengirola, so you can skip both the hire car and the taxi.

  • Choose your end of town. The centre is the liveliest, Los Boliches the best value and Miramar the quietest.

  • Book winter stays early. Many northern Europeans winter here, and the best rooms go fast from January to March.

What is the best family hotel in Fuengirola?

Hotel IPV Palace & Spa is our top pick for families. It has the beach right outside and its own children's pool. Bioparc, the zoo in the middle of town, is a favourite with children.
