A football trip to Liverpool: Anfield, Everton’s new stadium and the Beatles city
“You’ll Never Walk Alone” at Anfield, a brand-new stadium on the River Mersey and the club where the Beatles began. Liverpool is one of the world’s great football cities. Here are the stadiums, the tours and the hotels we recommend.
When the first notes of “You’ll Never Walk Alone” ring out from the stands at Anfield, the whole stadium rises. Scarves are held aloft, and many of those singing have stood in the same spot for decades. Liverpool is a city where football is almost a religion, and where two clubs, red and blue, have shaped the city for more than a century.

Tickets
Tickets for Liverpool matches are among the hardest to get in England. Buy only through the club’s official channels, and be wary of offers from unknown resellers.
Everton: the new stadium by the river
After more than 130 years at Goodison Park, Everton moved in 2025 to the Hill Dickinson Stadium, built on the old Bramley-Moore Dock by the River Mersey. It holds almost 53,000 spectators, and the tours show how the old dock walls have been preserved.

Liverpool beyond the match
The Cavern Club: the Mathew Street club where the Beatles played hundreds of gigs.
The Beatles Story: the museum about the band at the Royal Albert Dock.
The docks: the old docks by the river, with museums, restaurants and bars.
The pubs: from the old Victorian pubs in the centre to the bars around Bold Street.
Getting there
Many travellers fly to Manchester and take the train on to Liverpool Lime Street, a journey of around an hour. That makes it easy to combine matches in both cities on the same trip. Read more in our guide to a football trip to Manchester.
