The AO Arena is built over Manchester Victoria station, on the north side of the city centre. The hotels around Victoria and the Cathedral Quarter are the ones to choose.

Getting to and from the arena

The AO Arena is attached to Manchester Victoria station and is part of the station complex. Victoria tram stop is about a minute away, and Exchange Square and Shudehill Interchange are both about five minutes on foot, according to Transport for Greater Manchester. From Piccadilly Gardens it takes about 13 minutes to walk, and from Piccadilly station about 20.

Expect congestion on the roads around the arena from about two hours before doors open. After the show, Trinity Way closes for around an hour so that the crowds can leave safely. Trams and trains from Victoria are the quickest way out, which is why a hotel within walking distance is worth paying for.

AO Arena or Co-op Live?

The two big arenas in Manchester are in different parts of the city. Co-op Live is on the Etihad Campus in east Manchester, next to the Etihad Stadium, with a tram stop right outside. If your ticket says Co-op Live, read our guide to hotels near the Etihad Stadium instead.

What Picolo would choose

What Picolo would choose: Hotel Indigo for the shortest walk to the arena, and the Maldron for a group on a budget. The Stock Exchange Hotel is the pick when the concert is part of a weekend away.

Why: all three let you walk home after the show, which is the single biggest difference on a concert night. The trade-off: rooms near Victoria sell out first on show nights, so book as soon as you have your tickets.

Make a weekend of it

For a longer stay, our list of the best hotels in Manchester covers the whole city centre. In November and December, the Manchester Christmas Markets are a short walk from the arena.
