The Siam
Antiques and 1930s Art Deco on the river in Dusit, with pool villas and a boxing ring where you can train in muay thai.
Morning in the ring: an instructor holds the pads while you learn the basics of muay thai, the Thai form of kickboxing. Few hotels anywhere offer this, and it sets the tone for a place with real personality.
The Siam is small and sits on the river in Dusit, the royal quarter close to the old temples. Antique furniture and 1930s Art Deco touches fill the rooms, and the villas each have a pool of their own.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose The Siam
We chose it for couples and travellers who value calm and character over convenience. Being this close to the temples, with your own pool and the river outside, is hard to find anywhere else in Bangkok.
Shopping districts and the Skytrain are far away, so this is not the base for malls and nightlife. The hotel boat helps, but if you want the modern city at your door, look elsewhere.
