Mandarin Oriental, Muscat
A balcony over the sea at Shatti Al Qurum, with the city's cafes and restaurants a stroll along the beach rather than a taxi ride away.
Late in the day the Qurum beachfront fills up with Omani families, walkers and children with footballs, and the light turns soft over the water. From a sea-facing balcony at the Mandarin Oriental, you have the whole scene in front of you.
This is one of the most recent luxury openings in Muscat, and it feels it: rooms are bright and contemporary, the pool looks out to sea, and the restaurants and cafes of Shatti Al Qurum are right on your doorstep.

Why we chose Mandarin Oriental, Muscat
We like it for travellers who want the city and the beach in one place. It is new, central and well placed for evenings out, and guest ratings so far have been very strong.
Being new, it has a shorter track record than the established names, and fewer reviews to go on. The beachfront is busy in the evenings, so this is not the place if you want seclusion.
