Jumeirah Muscat Bay

  • Secluded cove
  • Tiered pools
  • Mountain views
  • Snorkelling
  • Contemporary design

Pools that step down the slope to a quiet beach, with bare mountains rising directly behind and nothing much else in sight.

The road ends, the mountains close in, and then the cove appears below: a strip of sand, clear water and pools descending in terraces towards the sea. The architecture keeps to stone and earth colours, so the buildings sit back in the landscape.

This is one of the newer resorts on the coast south of the capital. Central Muscat is roughly half an hour by car, close enough for a day at the souk and far enough away that the evenings stay quiet.

Picolo’s verdict

Why we chose Jumeirah Muscat Bay

We picked it for scenery and stillness. If your idea of Oman is mountains meeting the sea, this is where you see it from your sunbed, and the resort can arrange snorkelling and boat outings along the shore.

There is very little outside the gate. Without a car or taxi you stay on the resort, which is fine for a week of rest but frustrating if you want to explore the city every day.

What you get

  • Pools on several levels down to the sea
  • Beach in a secluded cove
  • Boat trips along the coast
  • Mountains right behind the beach
  • About 30 minutes to central Muscat
