Picolo recommends · Hotel in Wahiba Sands, Oman
Desert Nights Resort
Orange dunes on every side, and inside the canvas a cool room with a proper bed, a bathroom and air conditioning.
From the outside the suites look like Bedouin tents. Step in and the comforts are those of a hotel: a real bed, your own bathroom and air conditioning that makes the afternoon heat of the Wahiba Sands, also called Sharqiya Sands, easy to handle.
The resort sits right among the dunes in eastern Oman and keeps the desert close. Camel rides, drives over the sand and dinners eaten outdoors under the sky are all arranged on site, so the experience comes to you.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose Desert Nights Resort
We picked it as the desert stop on a tour of Oman. It gives you the dunes, the silence and the night sky without asking you to give up a shower or a cool room, and one or two nights is enough.
Getting there takes planning. The last part of the route is sand, so you need a four-wheel drive or a transfer from the main road. Travellers in a small hire car should book the pick-up in advance.
What you get
- Tent-shaped suites with proper beds and bathrooms
- Air conditioning against the desert heat
- Some suites with a private pool
- Dune drives and camel rides
- Dinner under the open sky
A day at Desert Nights Resort
- Morning
- A camel ride while the sand is still cool.
- Midday
- Back to the air conditioning, or into the pool if your suite has one.
- Afternoon
- A drive over the dunes as the shadows grow longer.
- Evening
- Sit on a dune crest after sunset and wait for the stars.

Yes. The suites are shaped like tents, but each has its own bathroom, a proper bed and air conditioning.
