Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort
A pool that seems to float over the canyon on the edge of the Saiq Plateau, and Diana's Point next door for the sunset before dinner.
The ground simply stops at the edge of the pool. Anantara is built on the very rim of the Saiq Plateau, with rooms and villas arranged so that most of them look out over the canyon.
Beside the resort is the viewpoint known as Diana's Point, named after the Princess of Wales, who came here in the 1980s. It is where guests gather when the light turns gold over the mountains.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort
We chose Anantara for couples who want the mountains with more comfort around them. There are more places to eat and more staff than at Alila, and the setting on the rim is hard to beat.
It is bigger and more decorated, which means less of the stillness that draws people up here. Weekends and Omani holidays are often fully booked, so plan ahead. If you want a quieter, more pared-back stay, choose Alila.
