Sommerro
The old headquarters of Oslo's electricity company at Solli plass, with a heated rooftop pool, a spa in the 1932 Vestkantbadet baths and seven restaurants and bars under one roof.
The red brick facade at Solli plass is easy to recognise, with tall windows in strict rows. This was the city's electricity works. Now it is Sommerro hotel, and the high hall in the middle of the building has become a brasserie, with Per Krohg's mural behind the bar.
The hotel opened on 1 September 2022 and has 231 rooms and suites, a heated rooftop pool that is open all year, and a spa in the old Vestkantbadet baths in the basement. The neighbouring Villa Inkognito from 1870 has 11 more rooms and can be hired in its entirety. Sommerro suits couples on a city break who want to make the most of the building.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose Sommerro
One of Oslo's finest hotel buildings, with a pool on the roof, a spa in the basement and jazz, afternoon tea and a rooftop restaurant under the same roof.
Best for couples on a city break. Good to know: the smallest rooms are small, and in a standard room you have to buy access to the rooftop pool. The junior suite is the best buy.

The rooftop pool and Vestkantbadet are open all year, so Sommerro works just as well on a dark winter weekend as in summer.
Stay from Friday to Sunday and you will have Vestkantbadet almost to yourself on Saturday, because day visitors are not admitted then. Prices vary a lot by date, so check several weekends if you are flexible.
Questions about Sommerro
Who can use the rooftop pool at Sommerro?
The rooftop pool is for hotel guests only. It is included from junior suite upwards, while guests in standard rooms have to buy access as part of a package or separately, according to Fora and Suitcase.
Can day visitors use Vestkantbadet?
Yes, on weekdays and Sunday afternoons. Day visitors paid 325 kroner as of October 2026. On Saturdays the baths are for hotel guests and members only, and the minimum age is 16.
Is Sommerro worth the price?
Yes, if you use the building. In a junior suite you get a bathtub and the rooftop pool, and with the restaurants and Vestkantbadet in the same building you hardly need to go out. If you only want to sleep for a night, you get more space for your money at an ordinary hotel in the centre.
