Hotel Londra Palace
Pull back the curtains and San Giorgio Maggiore floats on the lagoon in front of you, with the waterbus pier just below the window.
The façade is mostly windows, and the rooms on the water side make the most of it: the church of San Giorgio Maggiore sits on its island straight across, and boats cross the basin all day.
You are on the Riva degli Schiavoni, the long waterfront east of the Doge's Palace. The San Zaccaria pier, with boats to the Lido and Murano, is right outside, and the calmer streets of Castello start just behind the building.

Why we chose Hotel Londra Palace
For a first trip to Venice, this is the one we would book. Arriving is simple, St Mark's is close, and the restaurant sets tables out on the promenade so dinner comes with the lagoon at sunset.
By day the Riva is crowded with tour groups and souvenir sellers, and you notice it from the front rooms. Courtyard rooms are quieter, but then the view, which is the main reason to come, is gone.
