Hotel Ai Reali
Gondolas slide under the little bridge outside your window, and a small spa waits for the end of a long day on foot.
The gondolas pass close enough to hear the oars, gliding under the bridge by the hotel. Ai Reali fills a palazzo on a narrow canal in Castello, and the location puts you roughly halfway from the Rialto to St Mark's.
The hotel also has a small spa, which is unusual for a hotel of this scale in the old centre. Around the corner, the lanes are lined with bacari, the Venetian wine bars where you order small plates standing at the counter.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose Hotel Ai Reali
It is a sensible choice that does not feel like a compromise. You get four stars, a good breakfast and a spa in the middle of everything, without paying extra for a famous name or a Grand Canal frontage.
Do not expect grandeur. The lobby is compact, the canals around it are tight, and there is no lagoon view. If you want the sweeping palace hotel experience, look at the bigger names instead.
What you get
- Small spa
- Generous breakfast
- Canal and bridge outside
- Between the Rialto and St Mark's
- Four star rooms in a palazzo

Does Hotel Ai Reali have a spa?
Yes, there is a small spa in the hotel, which is rare for a hotel of this size in central Venice.
How far is Hotel Ai Reali from the Rialto Bridge?
It is about a five minute walk. St Mark's Square is roughly the same distance in the other direction.
Does Hotel Ai Reali have lagoon views?
No. It sits on a narrow inner canal, so the outlook is over the canal and the bridge rather than open water.
