Ca' Sagredo Hotel
Walk up the grand staircase and the frescoes climb with you, covering every wall and ceiling of a palazzo built for a noble Venetian family.
The staircase is the first thing you notice: painted figures and stucco reach from the steps all the way to the ceiling, and the ballroom carries on in the same spirit. This was the home of the Sagredo family, and it still feels like a noble residence.
The palazzo fronts the Grand Canal, and the Ca' d'Oro waterbus stop is only a few steps away. From the canal rooms you see over to the fish market at the Rialto, and the evening bars along the Misericordia canal are within easy reach.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose Ca' Sagredo Hotel
It offers palace hotel splendour away from the San Marco crush. Cannaregio has a more local evening scene, and the Rialto is close enough to walk to for market mornings.
It is a large, fairly formal hotel, so anyone after something small and personal should look elsewhere. The Strada Nova nearby is one of the busiest shopping streets in Venice during the day.
