Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan
You walk in over a bridge and land on a lotus pond, with the whole resort hidden in the gorge beneath your feet.
The first thing you see is not a lobby but water: a narrow bridge carries you over the treetops to a roof planted with lotus. Only then does the building reveal itself, falling away in terraces towards the Ayung River.
Villas and suites sit in the green slopes of the gorge, and the pool lies down by the river itself. After dark the valley goes quiet, and the restaurants of Ubud are a short taxi ride up the hill.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan
We chose it for the arrival and the setting. Few hotels anywhere use a landscape this boldly, and the walk from lotus roof to river pool is a piece of architecture you remember long after the trip.
It costs a great deal, and the gorge means stairs almost everywhere. If walking is hard for you, or you want shops and cafés outside the door, a hotel in central Ubud will suit you better.
