Picolo recommends · Hotel in Oia, Santorini
Perivolas
Old cave houses at the quiet end of Oia, pared back to white walls and soft curves, with a pool whose edge disappears into the Aegean.
Walk a little beyond the crowds of Oia and the noise fades. Perivolas sits here, in a row of former cave dwellings that have been turned into rooms and suites, all white walls and rounded ceilings.
The design is restrained on purpose, so the eye goes outward. At the far end, the pool runs right to the edge of the cliff, and from the water it looks as if it spills over into the sea far below.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose Perivolas
This is our romantic pick on Santorini. It feels more private than the hotels in the centre of Oia, and the simple, calm rooms suit couples who came for the view and each other.
There is little going on around you, and dinner in the village means a walk along the cliff path, which is dark late at night. Children are not a good match here, and anyone wanting bars on the doorstep should look elsewhere.
