The Pucić Palace

  • Baroque palace
  • Old Town
  • Gundulić Square
  • Antique interiors
  • Couples

Step out of the door and the stalls of the morning market on Gundulić Square are already being set up, a stone’s throw from Luža Square.

Before the day trippers arrive, Gundulić Square belongs to the farmers selling figs, lavender and dried fruit. The Pucić Palace looks straight down on it from a baroque facade, and inside you find old wooden floors, antique pieces and heavy fabrics.

Some rooms look out over terracotta roofs and church domes. Luža Square, the Stradun and the old harbour are all within a couple of minutes on foot, so you can see the Old Town at its quietest, at dawn and after the cruise passengers have gone.

Picolo’s verdict

Why we chose The Pucić Palace

We picked it for the address and the building. Few hotels in Dubrovnik let you sleep inside a baroque palace in the very centre of the walled city, with the market below and the main street round the corner.

You pay for the setting, not the facilities. There is no pool and no beach, and the rates are among the highest in the Old Town. Families who want space to swim are better off in Ploče or Lapad.

What you get

  • Rooms inside a baroque palace
  • Antique furniture and wooden floors
  • Morning market on the square outside
  • Rooftop and church views from some rooms
  • Stradun and the old harbour close by

A day at The Pucić Palace

Morning
Buy figs at the market on Gundulić Square before the crowds.
Midday
Walk the city walls while the cruise groups are at lunch.
Afternoon
Retreat to the cool of your room behind thick stone walls.
Evening
Wander the empty lanes after the day visitors have left.
