Disney's Grand Floridian
White gables and red roofs on the lagoon, a monorail gliding through the lobby and Magic Kingdom lighting up across the water at night.
The monorail pulls in on the first floor, and a few stops later you are at the gates of Magic Kingdom. At night the same park sends its fireworks up over the Seven Seas Lagoon, and plenty of rooms have a view of the show.
The building takes its cue from the old Florida seaside hotels of the late 1800s: white wood, red roofs, chandeliers in the lobby. It is Disney at its most dressed up, and priced accordingly.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose Disney's Grand Floridian
We chose it for the logistics as much as the looks. With the monorail inside the building, getting to Magic Kingdom with tired children takes minutes, and the spa gives one of the adults a quiet hour.
It is costly, even for Disney, and the mood leans formal rather than easygoing. Toddlers will not care about the chandeliers, so families on a tighter budget get more value elsewhere.

How far is Disney's Grand Floridian from Magic Kingdom?
Very close. The monorail stops inside the hotel and runs to Magic Kingdom in a few minutes, so a midday break back at the room is easy.
Can you see the fireworks from Disney's Grand Floridian?
Yes, many rooms face Magic Kingdom across the Seven Seas Lagoon. Ask for a park or lagoon view when you book if the fireworks matter to you.
Is Disney's Grand Floridian good for small children?
It works well for the short trip to Magic Kingdom, but toddlers get little out of the grand interiors. You pay a premium for style they will not notice.
