The Biltmore
A tower borrowed from Seville rises over the treetops of Coral Gables, with a golf course behind and one of America's biggest hotel pools below.
Long before South Beach had its towers, Miami had The Biltmore. The hotel dates from the 1920s and stands in Coral Gables, a leafy neighbourhood of villas south-west of Downtown, and it still dominates the skyline there, visible from streets all around.
The tower takes its shape from a Spanish bell tower in Seville, and the golf course runs out behind the building. The pool is famous in its own right, often named as one of the biggest hotel pools anywhere in America.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose The Biltmore
We chose The Biltmore for travellers who want history, a round of golf and quiet evenings, rather than another beach hotel. Few places in Miami give you this sense of the city before the boom.
You will need a car, since the sea is some distance off. Rooms are classic and not all of the same standard, so ask for one that has been renovated when you book.
What you get
- A vast pool, among the biggest at any US hotel

Where is The Biltmore in Miami?
In Coral Gables, a green residential area south-west of Downtown Miami. It is well away from the beaches, so most guests get around by car.
Do you need a car at The Biltmore?
It helps a lot. The beaches and most of Miami's other neighbourhoods are a drive away, so a hire car makes the stay much easier.

Yes. A golf course runs out right behind the hotel, so golfers can start the day on the first tee without getting in the car.
