Picolo recommends · Hotel in Princeville, Kauai, Hawaii
1 Hotel Hanalei Bay
From the terrace in Princeville you look across Hanalei Bay to a wall of green mountains, with waterfalls showing after the rain.
Morning light slides down the ridges on the far side of Hanalei Bay, and the water below turns from grey to turquoise. 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay stands on the slope at Princeville, facing that view.
The 1 Hotels brand works with natural materials, plants and a low-key, sustainable approach, which suits the north shore. Hanalei town, the taro fields and the road towards the Na Pali coast are all close by.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay
We chose it for the setting. Few hotels in Hawaii look out on a landscape like this, and the north shore is the wild, green side of Kauai that most visitors come to see.
The north shore is wetter than the south, especially in winter, and the sea can be too rough to swim. If you want guaranteed sun and calm water, Poipu is a safer bet.
