The Breakers Palm Beach

  • Beach club

  • 1920s architecture
  • Palm Beach

Look up in the lobby at ceilings painted in the 1920s, then walk straight through to a beach club on the Atlantic.

Step in from the heat and the first thing you notice is the ceiling, painted in the manner of an Italian palazzo. The Breakers has stood on this stretch of the Atlantic since the 1920s, and its long front still sets the tone for the whole of Palm Beach.

Behind the grand rooms the resort turns practical: a beach club on the sand, pools, a golf course, a spa and more restaurants than you will manage in a week. It feels like a self-contained world, but a polished one.

Picolo’s verdict

Why we chose The Breakers Palm Beach

We chose The Breakers because few hotels in America do history and service at this level and still work for a family. Everything is on site, the staff know how to run a big house, and the ocean is right there.

Palm Beach is quiet, tidy and early to bed. If you want bars and nightlife, you will be driving south towards Fort Lauderdale or Miami. The style is formal, which some will love and others will find stiff.

Questions about The Breakers Palm Beach

How old is The Breakers Palm Beach?

The current building dates from the 1920s and was designed in Italian Renaissance style. Its painted lobby ceilings and long oceanfront facade are still the hotel’s signature.

Is The Breakers Palm Beach good for families?

Yes. With a beach club, pools, golf and several restaurants, a family can spend a whole week without leaving the grounds, and the mood stays grown-up rather than theme park.

Is there nightlife near The Breakers Palm Beach?

Not much. Palm Beach itself is quiet in the evenings. For a livelier scene, West Palm Beach is just across the water, and Miami is further south by car.
