Sirkeci Mansion
After a long day of mosques the children are in the indoor pool, and the trees of the old palace garden are right outside the door.
The tram rattles past the door, and across the road the gates of Gülhane Park open onto what was once the palace garden below Topkapı. Sirkeci station, the old terminus of the line from Europe, is just round the corner.
Indoors you will find a compact pool and a hammam, the Turkish bath, the steam room with a heated marble slab. The hotel also organises cooking classes and guided walks for guests, and breakfast is not something to rush.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose Sirkeci Mansion
This is where we would bring a family to the old city. Children get somewhere to swim after sightseeing, parents get a terrace with a view, and the tram outside makes getting around simple.
The style is traditional and warm rather than sleek. If you prefer minimalist design and a lobby where nobody notices you, one of the newer hotels in Karaköy or Galata will feel more like you.
