Four Seasons Hotel Istanbul at Sultanahmet

  • Former prison
  • Courtyard
  • Hagia Sophia
  • Blue Mosque
  • Sultanahmet

A watchtower still stands on the corner of the ochre walls, and from the courtyard you can hear the call to prayer from two great mosques.

At six in the morning the square outside is empty, and the only sound in the courtyard is birdsong and the first call to prayer. The ochre building with its corner watchtower once held prisoners. Today it is one of the most sought-after addresses in Istanbul.

Hagia Sophia is on one side and the Blue Mosque on the other, which puts the two great sights of the old city on your doorstep. By luxury standards the hotel is small, and no two rooms are quite alike in size or view.

Why we chose Four Seasons Hotel Istanbul at Sultanahmet

We chose it for the location and the stillness. You get Sultanahmet before the tour groups and after them, and a walled courtyard to come back to when the streets are packed.

Room sizes and views vary a lot, so ask before you book. There is no pool on site; that is at the sister property on the Bosphorus. Nightlife means a taxi ride across the water to Beyoğlu.

What you get

  • A converted prison with its old watchtower
  • Walled courtyard away from the crowds
  • Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque close by
  • Restaurant on site
  • Luxury service in a small hotel
