Anantara Layan Phuket Resort
A calm stretch of sand next to a national park, villas with their own pools, and a cookery class or boxing session when you tire of lounging.
Walk out to Layan beach in the morning and there is hardly a building in sight. The sand runs along the edge of a national park, which keeps the shoreline green and the crowds of the south far away.
Anantara's villas have private pools, and the hotel gives you reasons to stay busy: a cookery school for Thai dishes, and lessons in muay thai, the Thai form of kickboxing, run on site for guests.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose Anantara Layan Phuket Resort
We like Anantara Layan for anyone, two or a whole family, who wants an empty stretch of sand but gets restless doing nothing. Classes and sport are on the doorstep, and the airport is close when it is time to fly home.
This is the far north of the west coast. Patong, Kata and the southern beaches are a long drive away, so if you plan to explore the south or go out at night, you will spend a lot of time in a car.
What you get
- Quiet Layan beach
- Private pool in the villas
- Cookery school for Thai food
- Muay thai lessons for guests
- National park right next door
