Sugar Beach, A Viceroy Resort

  • White sand
  • Hillside villas
  • Treehouse spa
  • Snorkelling
  • Petit Piton

A strip of pale sand with a mountain rising at each end, and villas climbing the green slope behind it.

Few beaches anywhere have a setting like this. Gros Piton rises on one side, Petit Piton on the other, and between them a curve of white sand runs along the bay, with villas spread up the hillside among the trees.

The spa is set in treehouses up in the rainforest, so a massage comes with birdsong. In the water, the reef beneath Petit Piton is close enough to snorkel straight from the beach, and Soufrière, with its sulphur springs and waterfalls, is a short drive away.

Picolo’s verdict

Why we chose Sugar Beach, A Viceroy Resort

We chose Sugar Beach because it is the one place on St Lucia where you get the Pitons and a proper beach in the same view. If you want to swim, snorkel and look up at the mountains without moving your lounger, this is it.

Everything costs a lot here, meals and drinks included, and the bill adds up fast when the nearest alternatives are a drive away. Budget for it, or pick a hotel with more included in the rate.

What you get

  • White sand beach between the Pitons
  • Villas on the hillside
  • Spa in rainforest treehouses
