Anse Chastanet Resort
Step off the sand with a mask and the reef begins a few strokes out, while the rooms watch from the green slope above.
The bay at Anse Chastanet is all green hillside and a curve of sand, with rooms scattered up the slope among the trees. Several of them leave one side open to the view, and none has a television, which tells you what kind of stay this is meant to be.
The real attraction is under the water. A reef runs just off the beach, among the best on the island, and the resort's own dive centre handles courses and boat dives. Soufrière is a short drive south, and Jade Mountain, the sister hotel, sits on the hill above.

Why we chose Anse Chastanet Resort
We chose Anse Chastanet for anyone who would rather spend the day in a mask than on a lounger. Few hotels put this much coral this close to the room, and the setting keeps you close to nature from morning to night.
Without TV and with some rooms open to the elements, this is not for travellers who want sealed, conventional hotel comfort. The hillside also means plenty of steps between your room and the beach.
What you get

Can you snorkel from the beach at Anse Chastanet?
Yes. The reef starts just offshore, so you can swim out straight from the sand. It is one of the best places on St Lucia to snorkel without taking a boat.
Does Anse Chastanet have TVs in the rooms?
No, the rooms have no television. Several are also open on one side, so the idea is to look outwards at the bay and the forest rather than at a screen.
What is the difference between Anse Chastanet and Jade Mountain?
They are sister hotels on the same estate. Anse Chastanet sits lower, by the beach and the reef, while Jade Mountain is higher up, pricier and built around its open-walled sanctuaries.
