Cape Weligama
A crescent-shaped pool hangs over the edge of the headland, and below it the Indian Ocean rolls in towards Weligama Bay.
Cape Weligama sits high on a headland on Sri Lanka's south coast, and the crescent pool at its tip seems to float above the ocean. The villas are spread over the grounds, and even the smallest measure around 130 m².
Pools are everywhere, many of them private, and there are four restaurants and a free kids' club. Turtle Bay Beach is a walk away, and the surf town of Weligama and the old fort at Galle are within easy reach by car.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose Cape Weligama
Our long-haul choice for January. The south coast is in its dry season, the villas give families and couples real space, and the setting on the cape is one of the most dramatic in Sri Lanka.
Getting here takes time: a long flight to Colombo and then a drive down the coast. The hotel sits above the sea rather than on the sand, so it suits those who prefer pools to beach days.
