Las Arenas
White columns, gardens running down to the sand and the Mediterranean at the end of the lawn: a seaside bathhouse reborn as a grand hotel.
A balneario is an old-fashioned bathing establishment, and this one has stood on Valencia’s beach for generations. Its columns and white façades have been restored, and today it is a grand hotel, with gardens that lead from the pools straight down to the sand.
Several pools and a spa mean you can choose between salt water and fresh on any given afternoon. The city centre is a short ride inland, and along the promenade outside, restaurants serve paella in the city where the dish was born.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose Las Arenas
We picked Las Arenas for anyone after sand and a grand hotel in one stay. It works for couples and families in summer, and you can still be in the old town for dinner after a day on the sand.
It is expensive, and the area around it is seafront promenade rather than city, so evenings are about beach restaurants more than old town lanes. If you want to wander out into historic streets at night, stay in the centre.
