Son Brull Hotel & Spa
A stone monastery outside Pollença with its own vines and olive trees, now a design hotel with a spa tucked beneath the old vaulted ceilings.
The pool lies in the garden with the old farm buildings around it, and beyond the vines the northern end of the Tramuntana closes the view. Son Brull began life as a monastery, and the thick stone walls still keep the afternoon heat out.
Inside, the rooms are large and modern, with clean lines rather than antiques. Breakfasts run long and evenings centre on the restaurant. Pollença, with its bars and Sunday market, is a short drive away, and the beaches at Port de Pollença a little further.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose Son Brull Hotel & Spa
Son Brull pairs real history with a clean, contemporary interior, which is rarer than it sounds. It is a natural pick in the north for couples and adults who want quiet, good food and a spa under stone arches.
You will need a car. The beach is a drive away, and so is most of the evening life in town. Families looking for water slides and kids' clubs should look at the resorts along the bay instead.
