Grand Hotel Central
An infinity pool on the roof seems to pour over the edge onto the old town’s tiled rooftops, with both the Gothic Quarter and El Born at your feet.
Via Laietana is the broad street that cuts between the Gothic Quarter and El Born, and Grand Hotel Central stands roughly in the middle of it. Up top, the pool runs to the very edge of the roof, so swimmers look straight out over the old town.
Rooms are generous for this part of the city, in dark, restful tones. Step out of the door one way for the cathedral, the other way for the bars and boutiques of El Born.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose Grand Hotel Central
It is the practical choice for anyone who wants the whole old town on foot and a proper swim at the end of the day. In July and August that rooftop pool can be the deciding factor.
Via Laietana is a busy traffic artery, not a quiet lane. If your idea of Barcelona is shutters opening onto a silent alley, this is the wrong address.
What you get
- Rooftop infinity pool
- Views over the old town rooftops
- Spacious rooms in dark tones
- Central position on Via Laietana
- Restaurants of El Born nearby
