Picolo recommends · Hotel in Portorož, Slovenia
Hotel Palace Portorož
A grand seaside palace from the early twentieth century, restored and extended, on the promenade of Slovenia’s short Adriatic coast.
The white façade looks out over the promenade and the calm water of the Gulf of Piran, much as it did when the Palace first opened in the early years of the last century. It has since been restored and given a new wing.
The modern part holds a large spa and pools, which makes the hotel as much about rest as about the sea. Piran, with its Venetian old town on a narrow peninsula, is a short way along the coast.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose Hotel Palace Portorož
We chose it for a few slow days of sea and spa on Slovenia’s small stretch of Adriatic. It pairs well with a trip to Bled or Ljubljana, and Piran makes an easy afternoon outing.
Portorož itself is a resort town, busy in the warm months, with beach clubs and a casino. If you want old stone streets and quiet evenings, base yourself in Piran instead and visit the spa for the day.
