Grand Hotel Union
A curving art nouveau facade from 1905, with Prešeren Square and the Triple Bridge a few steps from the front door.
Step out of Grand Hotel Union and you are at the heart of Ljubljana. Prešeren Square, the city's main meeting point, is right there, and the Triple Bridge, three footbridges side by side over the Ljubljanica river, leads straight into the old town.
The building itself dates from 1905 and is one of the best examples of art nouveau in the city. Downstairs a large cafe opens onto the street, and there is an indoor pool for days when the weather turns.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose Grand Hotel Union
This is where we would send anyone visiting Ljubljana for the first time. The location could hardly be more central, the building has real history, and the old wing gives you rooms with period character.
Not every room has the same charm. Rooms in the newer parts of the hotel are more ordinary, so ask for the oldest wing if the art nouveau setting is the reason you are booking.
