Sharq Village & Spa, a Ritz-Carlton Hotel

  • Low-rise
  • Own beach
  • Spa village
  • Gulf architecture
  • Ritz-Carlton

Wind towers rise over sand-coloured walls and quiet passages, and the only tall thing in sight is the skyline across the water.

Instead of a tower, Sharq is a cluster of low houses joined by narrow lanes, with wind towers, the traditional Gulf way of catching a breeze, rising above the roofs. Evening light turns the walls almost gold.

Ritz-Carlton runs the hotel. Beyond the lanes lie a private beach and a big pool, and the spa is laid out as separate treatment houses. It feels removed from the city, yet the centre is only a short drive away.

Picolo’s verdict

Why we chose Sharq Village & Spa, a Ritz-Carlton Hotel

We chose Sharq for its sense of place. It is one of the few luxury hotels in Doha where the architecture tells you where you are, and the calm comes without a long drive out of town.

The spread-out layout means long walks between your room, the pool and the restaurants. Anyone with limited mobility, or simply after convenience, may prefer a tower hotel.

What you get

  • Own beach
  • Large pool
  • Spa with separate treatment houses
  • Village-style architecture with wind towers
  • Short drive to the museums and souk
