Picolo recommends · Hotel in Porto, Portugal
The Yeatman
A terraced wine hotel above the port lodges in Gaia, where every balcony faces Porto and the pool is shaped like a decanter.
As the sun goes down behind the Ribeira, the whole of Porto turns gold on the other side of the river, and from your balcony you watch it happen. The Yeatman steps down the slope in Vila Nova de Gaia, above the Taylor’s port cellars.
The outdoor pool, shaped like a decanter, sits right on the edge with the city behind it. The wine cellar gathers bottles from every corner of Portugal, and the spa works with treatments based on grapes.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose The Yeatman
Our romantic choice. Dinner with that view, a wine tasting, a spa treatment and a balcony of your own make it easy to spend a whole evening without leaving the hotel.
Gaia is across the river, with a bridge and a steep hill between you and the bars of Porto. If you plan to dip in and out of the old town several times a day, a hotel on the Porto side is more practical.
