Tivoli Avenida Liberdade
Up on the roof, the Sky Bar looks down the length of the avenue to the river, while a garden pool waits quietly behind the building.
Most people meet the Tivoli at sunset, on the roof. The Sky Bar takes in the avenue, the hills on either side and a strip of river at the end, and on summer evenings it fills with locals as well as guests.
Below it is one of the older grand hotels in the city, refreshed in recent years. Behind the building there is a garden with a pool, which is a welcome thing to come back to after a hot day of trams and steep streets.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose Tivoli Avenida Liberdade
It gives you a grand hotel with some life in it: a pool, a busy rooftop and the shops of the avenue outside. Rooms are classic and well kept, and the flat street makes getting around easy.
The avenue carries heavy traffic, and Chiado is about a fifteen-minute walk. If you want silence more than buzz, the smaller Valverde a short walk up the same street is the calmer choice.
