Memmo Príncipe Real
From the edge of the terrace pool, the city spills down the hill to the river, and almost every room shares the same view.
Memmo Príncipe Real steps down a steep slope in terraces, just above the garden with the huge cedar. The trick of the design is that nearly all the rooms, plus the terrace pool, look out over the city to the river.
Inside, the look is modern Portugal: tiles, cork and pale wood, clean lines and no clutter. Outside, the neighbourhood is one of the most lived-in in Lisbon, with antique dealers and restaurants that tourists often miss.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose Memmo Príncipe Real
This is our design pick in Lisbon. The views are superb, the rooms are well made, and Príncipe Real gives you a calmer, more local corner of the city than the streets below.
The hill is the price you pay. It is steep going down to Chiado and steeper on the way back, so expect tired legs or a few taxis. Not ideal for anyone who struggles with slopes.
What you get
- Pool on the terrace
- Views over the city and river
- Rooms in tile, cork and pale wood
- Garden with the great cedar nearby
- Local restaurants on the doorstep
A day at Memmo Príncipe Real
- Morning
