Vila Vita Parc
A luxury resort laid out in gardens on the clifftop at Porches, with steps leading down to a beach tucked beneath the rock.
Paths wind between flowerbeds and lawns, and every so often the garden opens onto the sea. Vila Vita Parc covers a large stretch of clifftop at Porches, in the central Algarve, with several pools set among the planting and steps down to the sand below.
It is one of the best-known luxury addresses on the coast, and it is built so you hardly need to leave. There is a spa, a choice of restaurants and room to spread out, which is why many guests book dinner on site rather than driving out.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose Vila Vita Parc
This is our romantic pick. The gardens give couples privacy even when the resort is full, the service is polished, and several restaurants on hand mean a week never feels repetitive. Families with older children do well here too.
It is expensive, and it is big. If you want a small hotel where the staff know your name by day two, or an evening stroll into a village, look at Bela Vista or Tivoli Carvoeiro instead.
