Bela Vista
An old mansion on the cliff at Praia da Rocha, clad in blue and white tiles, with modern rooms looking straight down at the sand.
Step in from the street and the noise falls away. Bela Vista fills a mansion high over Praia da Rocha in Portimão, with walls dressed in azulejos, the painted blue and white tiles that Portugal is known for.
The rooms tell a different story: modern, light and calm, with views over the beach. It is a small hotel, and that shows in the service. The restaurant is one of the most talked about on this stretch of coast, and the terrace above the sand is where to be as the sun goes down.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose Bela Vista
This is our design pick in the Algarve. Old and new sit together without fuss, and you get history, a serious kitchen and a big beach right below, all in a hotel small enough to feel personal.
Praia da Rocha itself is a busy resort strip, and in July and August the street outside is crowded and loud. The hotel stays calm, but if you want a quiet village around you, this is not it.
What you get
- Rooms in a historic tiled mansion
- Restaurant with a strong reputation
- Spa
- Praia da Rocha right below
- Terrace for the sunset
A day at Bela Vista

Open in MapsQuestions about Bela Vista
Is Bela Vista on the beach?
It sits on the cliff directly above Praia da Rocha, one of the widest beaches in the western Algarve, so the sand is just below the hotel.
What makes Bela Vista different from other Algarve hotels?
The building. It is a historic mansion covered in traditional azulejo tiles, while the rooms inside are modern and bright. Few hotels on the coast mix the two so well.
Is Bela Vista good for couples?
Yes. It is small, quiet inside and has a well-regarded restaurant, which makes it a strong choice for two. Families with young children may find the bigger resorts easier.
