Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel
Small stone houses scattered through a forest garden by the river, where hummingbirds work the orchids outside your window.
The path to your room winds under tall trees, past ferns and orchids, and the noise of Aguas Calientes fades behind you. Cloud forest is the damp, misty woodland that grows on these Andean slopes, and Inkaterra has a large piece of it.
The rooms are spread out as small houses in the garden, which keeps things calm. The railway station is only a short walk away, so you can arrive by train without needing a taxi.

Why we chose Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel
We pick it as the antidote to a day in the ruins. After the crowds at the citadel, it is a relief to return to birdsong and green, and the guided walks show you a side of the area most visitors miss.
You do not wake up at the ruins themselves. Reaching Machu Picchu still means the bus up the mountain, and the garden is humid and full of insects, so it is not ideal for anyone who wants polished luxury over nature.
