Scandic Solsiden
The old shipyards at the river mouth are now full of restaurant tables, and from the roof terrace you look out over the whole quay.
Glasses clink along the quay, and the evening sun lingers on the water. Nedre Elvehavn, at the mouth of the Nidelva, was once a shipyard district, and its old buildings now hold restaurants, bars and apartments. The area is better known as Solsiden, the sunny side.
Scandic Solsiden sits right in the middle of it. Up top is a roof terrace, downstairs a bar and gym, and the rooms are light and up to date in the chain's familiar Scandinavian style.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose Scandic Solsiden
We picked it for travellers who want dinner and drinks a few steps from the lift. Friends on a weekend, couples and families who would rather walk to a restaurant than call a taxi will all find the location hard to beat.
Summer evenings on the quay can be loud, so request a courtyard room if you want an early night. The cathedral and the old centre are a fair walk away, roughly a quarter of an hour on foot.
