Scandic Nidelven
Sunlight on the river, a long table of local produce and warm pastries, and nobody in any hurry to leave the breakfast room.
Plates come back to the table for a second round, and outside the big windows the river slides into the harbour. Breakfast is what this hotel is known for, and the buffet is built around local produce, fresh baking and a spread of hot dishes.
The rest of the hotel is calmer than its size suggests. Rooms are neat and contemporary, plenty of them looking onto the water, and the railway station is only a short walk away, which makes arrivals and departures simple.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose Scandic Nidelven
We chose it for the breakfast, honestly. Few hotels in Norway put this much into the first meal of the day, and with river views and the station close by, it gives good value for both work trips and short city breaks.
It is a large hotel with a conference crowd, and it shows on weekdays. If you are looking for somewhere small, with personality and a neighbourhood feel, Bakklandet on the other side of the river is the better match.
